Every June as our fiscal year comes to a close, Common Ground takes the opportunity to look back on all that we accomplished over the past twelve months, and to thank some of those partners and staff who have been so integral to our work.

At this year’s Annual Meeting we had a great deal to celebrate: our Street to Home program reduced street homelessness in Times Square by an unprecedented 87%. In response to this milestone, Street to Home is now being expanded to encompass a wider section of Manhattan and all of Brooklyn and Queens. There are nine new Common Ground buildings in development throughout New York and Connecticut, including a new transitional residence for Veterans set to open this summer. Our Brownsville, Brooklyn project is planned as a neighborhood model for homelessness prevention; this year alone we prevented 250 families from becoming homeless in Brownsville.

We invite you to read more about Common Ground’s strides this year, and about our very hopeful goals for the future in our 2006 Annual Report.

Critical to our achievements have been our outstanding partners. Honorees at this year’s Annual Meeting included Emily Youssouf, President of the NYC Housing Development Corporation, Vanessa Bressler, of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, and The Langeloth Foundation.

Staff accept their Above and Beyond awards

We also honored those members of Common Ground’s staff who so tirelessly worked to make the Brownsville Partnership a reality - from fundraising and evaluations staff to case workers on the streets and in the houses of Brownsville.

Thank you to all who attended the Annual Meeting, and to all of our partners in the journey to end homelessness!
